Dawn Eyes Cosmetics–review and swatches
I have quite a lot of mineral make up but I somehow always forget to review it. I have to change that, starting with Dawn Eyes Cosmetics. DEC is a small mineral company, specialized in making eyeshadows. The owner, Dawn, was once upon a time a part of Aromaleigh which is now closed. She really has talent for making unique eyeshadows and her website offers a large selection of colors. Shimmery, satin, duochrome, matte…you name it, Dawn Eyes has it. Prices are quite normal for mineral cosmetics, samples are 1$, full sizes 6$.
Samples contain 1/8 tsp which is enough for around 10 applications. They come in little baggies with label which contains name of the shade. Full sizes are packed in 5g jars.
Eyeshadows are pigmented, with nice texture and I had no problem with applying. I experienced some fallout with 2 of them but nothing you cant solve. I had problem only with Glittering grey fire because it seemed not blended enough.
They are taken under the artificial light because it is easier to see glitter and shimmer that way, with no primer. You can see swatch in daylight at the end of post.
Holographic white. I admit I dont see much white in this, it is more a light silver base with lots of holographic glitter. It is on the sheer side but shade itself is very beautiful, mainly because I havent had a chance to wear a lot of holographic shades on my eyes.
Date is very unusual shade. I wouldnt call it a pure duochrome but it looks different depending on light and angle. It goes from super satin silver to light purple and sometimes shows some brown undertones as well. It is more neutral on the swatch but I assure you, this shade is something special and almost impossible to photograph.
Glittering grey fire. I must admit this is the only eyeshadow I really dont like. It is streaky, not blended very well and impossible to apply. Although the idea for the shade is good-neutral with red glitter, the final result just isnt.
Coppermine is copper base with copper glitter. Sparkly and very nice. This would go great with blue eyes.
Peacock teal is beautiful mix of green, blue and brown. I like this one a lot.
Medium grey matte is also among my favorites. It is more grey IRL (looks brown on swatch). Great neutral color, blends very well.
Breathless is similar to Holographic white, it is just a tad darker and contains less glitter. Swatch makes it look very sparkly but that glitter isnt so visible IRL.
Peacock teal 2 is…wow. My ultimate favorite. Similar to Peacock teal but darker with more blue and green and super duochrome effect.
Plain deep purple is dark shimmery purple, very rich in color. Reminds me a lot of MAC Grape pigment so if you are looking for a cheap dupe, grab this one.
Super sparkle black green is dark green base (almost black) with loads of green glitter and along with Peacock teal 2, my favorite.
I made a quick swatch in daylight, over e.l.f. primer to give you additional view of colors. I really tried my best to capture the beauty of each eyeshadow but it is almost impossible to photograph more complex shades.
1st row L to R: Super sparkle black green, Peacock teal, Coppermine, Glittering grey fire, Breathless. 2nd row L to R: Plain deep purple, Peacock teal 2, Date, Medium grey mate, Holographic white.
What I liked with Dawn Eyes Cosmetics? DEC offers a large selection of unique eyeshadows. From neutrals to brights, all sorts of finishes, interesting blends…eyeshadows themselves are high quality, they blend with no problem, have a good staying power and nice texture. Very easy to work with. Website descriptions of individual colors are good and website itself is easy to navigate.
What I didnt like? All photos on the website are taken with flash. Goddamned camera flash. It ruins colors, it washes them out and swatch rarely ever turns out realistic. You can get some idea how the color looks like IRL but with complex shades that just doesnt work. So please, please, please…stay away from flash. I also didnt liked website template. Being a sucker for good design as I am, I think the good products like ones made by DEC deserve a better designed website to make them shine.
Medium grey matte, Peacock teal 2, Super sparkle black green. They are pigmented enough to be used as an eyeliner. Use an eyeshadow base to prevent fallouts.
Here are some make up looks made with Dawn Eyes Cosmetics eyeshadows. For the first one I used Holographic white and Medium grey matte. On second photo is Peacock teal 2.
Will you try Dawn Eyes Cosmetics? Do you like my eyeshadows and looks?
